Meet Alan Wickell...

GR- “Alan, thanks for taking the time for the viewers to get to know Alan Wickell”
AW-“My pleasure.”

GR- “Congrats on your 1st Huntsville Engine KOC Championship. At what point did you set your sights on the KOC Championship in 2011?”
AW- “That is one of the great things about the KOC Series, you are automatically entered into the Points, so I actually did not give it much thought until we won a few races in Russ Miley’s car and at that point I was thinking it would be nice if his car was entered in the points and not mine. I did not think that I had done that well in my car until the next to the last event when someone told me I was leading the points. So I was hoping for a lot of luck in the last two events.”

GR- “Could you take a moment to what it is that you think the KOC represents?”
AW- “I have raced a lot of series over the years and the KOC is one of my all time favorite. Gaylon and Jim do an excellent job putting on this series. Rather than just being promoters, they have a personal relationship with the racers.”

GR- “Your resume in bracket racing is unbelievable, Can you give us some highlights of you racing career thus far?”
AW- “1993 NHRA Division 2 Race of Champions, 1996 B&M Racers Appreciation Series Champion, 1997 $25,000 Bracket Race at Huntsville Dragway, 2011 IHRA Bracket Champion , 2011 KOC Champion.”

GR- “Alan you took some time off of the bracket racing scene in the past, what brought you back to the track?”
AW-“ Bracket racing is something I always enjoyed very much and when my kids got to the age where it was not cool to hang out with dad anymore it was time for to find something to do, and I knew bracket racing was it.”

GR- “You also drive for long time and successful racer Russ Miley. How far do you and Russ go back, and why do you enjoy driving for Russ?”
AW- “Russ and I have been friends for a long time and when I started back racing Russ and I discussed me driving his car, but I explained to him that I was not that good of a driver. After a couple of weeks of me driving his car, he agreed, but still wanted me to keep driving because I had to be the luckiest guy he had ever met. I enjoy driving for Russ because he has a very fast hotrod that is fun to drive. He also helps keep me focused. He actually left me stranded on the return road one time to prove a point, which really got my attention.”

GR- “What drives Alan Wickell off and on the track?”
AW- “Support from my family and friends.”

GR- “The one thing that comes to mind when I watch Alan Wickell compete at the race track is that he seems to have the same routine from time trials to the final round. How important is that routine for you?”
AW- “I have raced with Tracey Guffey from Tennessee a lot over the years and he has always stressed the importance of being prepared and is constantly reminding me to stay on top of my setup in which he never lets me forget. He has always emphasized that I need a consistent routine to be effective and that has held true over the years.”

GR- “If there was one thing that you would change about bracket racing what would that be and how would you go about changing that?”
AW- “Nothing! Perfect just the way it is.”

GR- “What piece of advice would you give to a bracket racer when it comes to competing at the track”
AW- “Stay away from the SHARKS! Keep good records and lots of notes. Write down how you lost at each race and go back and study over this. Try to determine what areas need to be worked on. Joining Luke Bogacki ThisIsBracketRacing.com website and attending one of his or Scotty Richardson's live schools is a great idea. They are very knowledgeable and hold nothing back.”

GR- “What’s next for Alan Wickell in 2012 an beyond”
AW- “Well winning a second KOC championship would be nice but with the level of completion in this series I am not getting my hopes up. Beyond 2012 I just want to keep enjoying the game I love.”

GR- “Thank you Alan for your time. Good luck in 2012”
AW- “Your welcome and thank you and your family for everything ya’ll do for all the racers of the KOC series. Thanks also to all the people with the KOC and Gulfport Dragway that help make this a great series.”
