Slate Cummings Drives Moser Engineering Dragster to $50,000 Payday!
Memphis, TN: Slate Cummings has accomplished a lot in his career behind the wheel. A four-time IHRA World Champion, Cummings has a variety of national event victories in both NHRA and IHRA, in categories ranging from Top Dragster to Stock Eliminator. He's won virtually every major “Shootout” available to sportsman racers, including the JEGS All-Stars competition, the Moser Engineering Axle Mania shootout, and IHRA All-Stars events in years past presented by Holley, Mr. Gasket, and Summit Racing Equipment. He's won countless big dollar bracket races in virtually any car, category, or facility you can imagine. Given his immense success, it's notable when a racer of Cummings' stature captures the richest victory of their career; and that's just what Cummings did last Saturday night.
Behind the wheel of his team's Moser Engineering backed, Phantom Race Cars built dragster, Cummings took the top prize at the title event of the Moser Engineering Great American Bracket Race at Memphis International Raceway in Tennessee, besting over 100 of the top bracket racers in the nation to walk away with a $50,000 winner's check.
“The money is great, no doubt,” said a jubilant Cummings. “But this great feeling I have goes deeper than that. This race is full of great racers. The entry fee is $900, so no one enters unless they have a chance to win. To get a victory among this crowd is a huge accomplishment, regardless of the purse. The fact that it's the biggest purse I've ever taken home from a single event? Well that just makes it that much sweeter!”
As expected, Cummings was stellar behind the wheel as he pushed through eight rounds of fierce competition. He advanced past multi-time big buck winner Rachel Henderson in round 5 to earn a quarterfinal bye run. In the semi-final round, Cummings knocked off local standout Cody Graham, forcing a final round matchup with former Million Dollar Race Winner Ron Lane. There, Slate got the victory when Lane fouled by a scant .001-of-a-second.
“I just want to say 'thank you' to my wife Patty, our son Brody, and all of my family for everything that they do. Thanks of course to Moser Engineering for their faith in our team, along with all of the manufacturers who support our efforts. And I want to thank all of my friends, especially those who took the time to congratulate me on this win; it means a lot to me!”
