Collier’s Manpower Backed Team Wraps Up Successful Season
Benton, LA: The Manpower backed Collier Racing team, featuring drivers Steve Collier, Jack Collier, and Tony Brown enjoyed a productive and successful 2014 season, with each team driver earning victories along the NHRA Lucas Oil tour. The Benton, LA based team’s success is notable, not only due to the competitive nature of the NHRA “Super” classes, but also because the team had focused exclusively on bracket events until initially trying their hand at Lucas Oil Series competition in early 2013.
The Collier brothers and Brown are each respected bracket racers in their own right, as the team has been successful in local and regional big buck bracket events for over a decade. Steve Collier is a 3-time track champion and holds a pair of runner-up finishes at the NHRA Division 4 E.T. Finals. He also owns a number of big buck wins highlighted by a $20,000 triumph at the 2009 Million Dollar Race. His younger brother Jack is a former junior dragster track champion; and teammate Tony Brown also has a track championship to his credit in the bracket ranks.
This season, just their second along the NHRA tour, the Collier team has turned heads. Competing in Super Gas with his ’72 Vega, Steve Collier will finish the season ranked in the top ten of the NHRA Lucas Oil national points standings (he is currently 8th). His season was highlighted by a trio of victories: he earned his first NHRA national event crown at the O’Reilly Auto Parts Spring Nationals in Houston, TX, and also scored a pair of victories along the Lucas Oil Series, at No Problem Raceway (Belle Rose, LA) and Heartland Park (Topeka, KS). He ended the season tied for the NHRA South Central Division Super Gas championship, but lost the tie-breaker to Robby Lopez and will settle for a second place finish.
“We’ve had a great season,” Collier remarked. “We’re still new to the NHRA tour and .90 classes, but we’re holding our own and we’re learning at each event. I’m really happy that all three of us got to take home a ‘Wally’ this season, and we’re very excited about 2015.”
Collier’s Manpower teammates, Jack and Tony Brown each scored along the Lucas Oil series tour as well. Jack scored a Super Comp title at Red River Raceway (Shreveport, LA) and was runner-up in the same category at the JEGS Cajun Sports Nationals in Belle Rose, LA. Brown scored a Super Comp victory at the second LODRS event of the season contested at Heartland Park (Topeka, KS).
The Collier Racing Team campaigned five competition vehicles throughout the season, as Steve and Jack each competed in Super Comp and Super Gas, while Tony focused his efforts on the 8.90 category. Next season, the team will expand to feature seven entries at each event; Tony will add a Super Street machine to his driving responsibilities, and Steve’s 16-year-old son will compete in Super Gas at divisional events.
In addition to Manpower, the Collier Racing Team wished to recognize a handful of quality manufacturers for their role in the team’s continued success: BRODIX Cylinder Heads, Advanced Product Design (APD), Crewchief Pro Software, DragstersForSale.com, Sunset Performance Engines, Hughes Performance, and Meziere Enterprises.
