Guest Instructor - Bruce Deveau

Bruce Deveau grew up in the pits of New England Dragway in Epping, NH. By the time he was old enough to drive, he was at the track every weekend, running beat-up street cars and handling crew duty on his friend’s 11 second Dodge Charger.  From the crew position, Bruce learned the art of bracket racing, dialing, strategy, and concentration.

In 1979 they won the Division One Pro ET championship, held in York, PA. By then Bruce was hooked. He went on to race his own cars and raced brackets in the New England area with mixed results. He knew he could be a better driver but did not know how to improve his concentration skills.  Meanwhile, he gained further experience traveling with various teams all over the country, working mostly on sportsman cars in Stock, Superstock, and Comp Eliminator.
By the early 1990’s, Bruce thought he was done with drag racing and sold his equipment in order to attend graduate school and become a psychotherapist. When he studied sport psychology and learned what top athletes all over the world do to perform their best, he recognized that he would have been a much better driver had he known these skills back when he was racing. A solid mental game approach had been missing from his own racing program.
Bruce finished grad school and got his practice up and running. But his thoughts kept returning to drag racing and the link between concentration skills and top driving. He set out to develop a way to help all drivers concentrate and perform at their best. In the summer of 2005 he released The Racer’s Mind, a concentration skills program made up of a workbook and CD.
The success of the workbook was followed up with a second CD and a bimonthly Newsletter. He now writes a monthly column on the mental game of drag racing in National Dragster.
Bruce is excited to be working with Luke and Thisisbracketracing.com. Finally, one place where the mechanical, tactical, and mental parts of drag racing come together.
